Tips: Pumpkin seed is very tender and will not germinate in cool soil. Plant after all danger of frost has past. For early plantings, use floating row covers to raise soil temperature, increase early growth and protect tender plants from wind injury. Sow 4-6 seeds about 1" deep in groups on hills which are 4-6 feet apart for bush types and 8-10 feet for vine types. When seedlings are 6" tall, thin to the 2 or 3 best plants in each hill.
Which Pumpkins Can I Eat? Field pumpkins are edible but not as flavourful and more stringy than Pie Pumpkins. They are excellent for making jams however.
