Hemerocallis. Always a favourite, this award-winning Daylily is so easy to grow even in drought conditions, but brings a green-thumb feel because of its beauty! Big, fragrant flowers are a soft lavender-pink with a prominent chartreuse eye zone. So elegant and charming in any space! Daylilies are very hardy, forming beautiful clumps of scrappy, green leaves. The flowers only last one day but there will be a brand new flower on each stalk the following morning! Plant along foundations or walkways, in mixed borders and beds or even well-drained containers. Growing Information
Upon Arrival:
It is very important to plant as soon as possible after you receive them. If it is necessary to store them for a short time before planting them, open the plastic bags. If the roots appear dry, soak them for a few hours in warm water. Store in slightly moist peat moss in a cold, but not freezing location until you can plant. They can also be placed in pots of soil if planting will be delayed for more than 2 weeks. Use any peat-based potting soil and pots with drainage holes.
Soak bare-root perennials in water for a few hours before planting. Unless otherwise specified, bare-root perennials are usually planted with the crown (where the shoots meet the roots) an inch below the soil surface. Firm soil gently to eliminate air pockets and water in well. Mark the area clearly since it may be a while before the plant shows itself.
Planting:
Plant daylilies 18"-24" apart in any good garden soil with the crowns about 2" below the soil surface.
Growing:
They thrive in full sun or part shade. Most hybrids bloom best with 6-8 hours of sun each day. Daylilies tolerate poor soil and drought but bloom best if soil is kept moist. Deadhead regularly. Divide plants in fall or spring.
